We’ve all heard that issues in your back can be connected to your feet. However, very few people think that these issues could be answered with a simple solution. Your shoes play a critical role in how you move every day. Your shoes need to fit four criteria to be effective. They must:
- Fit properly
- Avoid rubbing
- Cushion appropriately
If your foot is missing the mark on any one of these metrics, you will likely have significant foot problems. Many people can fit into a standard shoe without a problem. However, there are a wide variety of conditions that can make a proper fit nearly impossible. These include:
- Achilles Tendonitis
- Flat feet
- Heel spurs
- High arches
- Plantar fasciitis
These specific issues not only make that fit difficult but can leave people prone to additional pain. Over time, painful injuries can lead to infection or the inability to walk. Instead, custom orthotics can help patients with a variety of foot conditions wear comfortable shoes and maintain a high quality of life.
How Orthotics Work
Orthotics are specialized shoes that can be highly customized for each patient. You’ll work with Dr. Anant Joshi and his team at Advanced Foot Care of NJ, LLC. You’ll receive a comprehensive exam to help identify any issues associated with your feet and ankles. Additionally, we can examine your posture when you stand and walk. Once the podiatrist has made a complete physical examination, he can determine if you also need medical imaging.
After your exam, we can work with you to give a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. As part of that plan, custom orthotics may be an ideal solution. We can create a specially tailored shoe for daily wear to help correct common foot and posture problems.
Custom orthotics can help to provide support in areas where regular shoes lack. Additionally, many patients have issues with how standard shoes fit. With Dr. Anant Joshi’s help, we can make sure that you get the shoe with the right length and width to support your foot without rubbing and causing irritation.
How Orthotics Help Correct Conditions
One of the most important factors to remember is that orthotics can only help when properly designed and implemented. This means that patients must wear them as prescribed and continue to follow up with their podiatrist to see if any changes are needed.
Orthotics are used to treat a wide variety of conditions. However, many issues, such as tendonitis, bunions, and bursitis, can be aggravated by the frequent rubbing and abrasion caused by classic shoes. Orthotics that are designed for your feet can eliminate this issue and allow your feet to heal.
Additionally, other conditions, such as flatfoot and high arches, require specialized support. Many of our patients started to feel relief immediately because the orthotics were created based on Dr. Anant Joshi’s expert measurements.
While orthotics may not be right for every condition, they have helped many of our patients start living without pain and regain their lives.
